Glaze Self Portrait

I completed this whilst doing an Introduction to Oil painting class at the university of Regina. We were learning to use the Grisaille technique with layers of coloured glazes. This where you paint a black and white under-painting then use a glaze that thins the oil paint so that you can add layers of colour, without losing the details of the grisaille.

I absolutely adore this new technique and was very pleased with the end result. The self-portrait is significant because all the objects within it including clothes, ear-rings and backdrop, were given to me by my parents and husband. It signifies the love and solidity in my life.
